Burkina Faso prime minister meets interafrican insurance brokers ahead of Ouagadougou conference
Ouagadougou witnessed a pivotal meeting last Tuesday, June 9, 2026, as Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo received a high-level delegation from the Inter-African Federation of Insurance Brokers (FIAC), led by its interim President, Vakaramoko Samaké. The purpose was to discuss critical priorities ahead of the 16th annual FIAC General Assembly, scheduled from June 10 to 13 in the Burkinabè capital.
Building financial inclusion through insurance brokerage
The upcoming conference, themed “The role of insurance brokers in expanding access and boosting market penetration”, aims to position brokers as central players in financial inclusion across Africa. Over 200 insurance brokers from 14 member states of the Inter-African Conference on Insurance Markets (CIMA), as well as from Guinea and Ghana, are expected to attend.
Following the audience, the interim FIAC President highlighted the Prime Minister’s strong commitment to the event. “We emphasized how crucial our profession is. Today, insurance brokers drive economic growth and job creation in our nations. This assembly marks the start of a transformative shift—financial inclusion is the key to empowering our communities through tailored insurance solutions,” he stated.
Ouagadougou honored as host of transformative dialogue
The Prime Minister expressed deep appreciation for Burkina Faso’s selection as the event’s host. “Choosing Ouagadougou reflects a bond of solidarity and trust among our nations,” he noted. “Despite facing misconceptions and negative stereotypes, our country remains steadfast. Progress is evident across all sectors, including strong macroeconomic indicators.”
He went on to underscore the timeliness of the conference theme, aligning with national priorities. “Insurance is now indispensable in every sector—even climate insurance in rural areas. Risks are evolving, and our people deserve reliable protection,” he added.
Government’s vision for a resilient insurance sector
Reaffirming the administration’s dedication to leveraging insurance brokerage as a tool for resilience, the Prime Minister closed with a message of collaboration. “Count on our full support in implementing your recommendations. Together, we must adapt to the changing landscape and ensure this sector thrives,” he urged.
With this meeting, Burkina Faso reaffirms its ambition to make insurance brokerage a cornerstone of economic recovery and resilience.
