Maroc and UAE forge strong strategic ties for shared growth
Relations between Morocco and the United Arab Emirates stand as a shining example of strategic partnership, rooted in deep historical ties forged by the late King Hassan II and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. These bonds are distinguished by a shared vision, reciprocal political backing, a diversified economic partnership, and a joint commitment to addressing global challenges. This harmony is most visible through frequent high-level exchanges, each tailored to meet evolving circumstances.
The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, hosted King Mohammed VI at his residence in Rabat on June 2 for a private visit. According to an official statement from the Royal Cabinet, the meeting provided an ideal platform for the two leaders to exchange perspectives on pressing international issues, with a particular focus on developments in the Gulf and Middle East regions. The encounter, the statement noted, reinforces the enduring fraternal ties between the two heads of state and their families.
A robust and innovative partnership was formally established in December 2023 between King Mohammed VI and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This framework is designed to convert their complementary strengths into high-impact synergy and sustainable investment, elevating their economic, trade, industrial, and investment ties to match their political and social connections. Fueled by unwavering mutual trust, both nations are actively working to implement pragmatic cooperation that advances shared development goals and mutual interests, guided by the principle of equitable benefit.
This partnership is driving the creation of cutting-edge operational models that align perfectly with their mutual understanding. Its priorities include funding high-value projects through financial mobilization, public-private collaborations, and investment capital. Strategic cooperation opportunities are also being explored in food security, particularly through potential partnerships with the Office chérifien des phosphates (OCP) in the fertilizer sector. Additional initiatives include joint ventures in tourism and real estate, especially along the Mediterranean coast and in the regions of Dakhla and Tarfaya, as well as efforts to rebuild and rehabilitate areas devastated by the Al Haouz earthquake.
Politically, Morocco places the highest importance on the security and stability of its Gulf allies. During the recent conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, Morocco took a firm stance against Iranian aggression targeting Gulf nations. The King’s solidarity with the United Arab Emirates was further demonstrated in a direct phone call to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, where he reaffirmed Morocco‘s full support.
