New postponement for Sonko-Niang villa trial in Dakar

Tribunal : Nouveau renvoi du procès opposant Ousmane Sonko à Mame Mbaye Niang

The civil trial pitting former minister Mame Mbaye Niang against Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko over ownership of a villa in Cité Keur Gorgui has been postponed until 22 July 2026 by the third civil chamber of the Dakar tribunal.

Former tourism minister Mame Mbaye Niang had summoned the PASTEF leader before this civil court seeking annulment of what he claims is a fraudulent transfer of his 264-square-metre villa (lot R/17) in Cité Keur Gorgui. The case was called for hearing this Wednesday, 10 June.

Niang wants the property re-registered in his name so he can recover the 200 million CFA francs in damages and interest definitively awarded to him by the Supreme Court at the conclusion of the criminal proceedings.

Lawyers for the plaintiff argue that the transfer of the lease to the former prime minister’s family was “a deliberate manoeuvre aimed at orchestrating Ousmane Sonko’s insolvency and removing the asset from any seizure”. The case, which had already been postponed once, now awaits the civil judge’s ruling on the merits after the defence filed its replies to Niang’s legal arguments.
