Ousmane Sonko urges followers to rise above insults in Senegal politics
At a major gathering in Dakar Arena, Ousmane Sonko, leader of the Pastef party and President of the National Assembly, delivered a clear message to his supporters: abandon derisive language and personal attacks against government officials. He stressed that such behavior not only undermines productive political discourse but also plays into the hands of adversaries seeking legal pretexts to silence opposition voices.
Speaking directly to Senegal’s youth and party activists, Sonko emphasized the need to shift the narrative from confrontation to constructive engagement. He warned that mockery and provocative slogans could lead to unnecessary legal consequences, urging militants to channel their energy into advocating for the party’s policy proposals rather than indulging in counterproductive rhetoric.
Beyond rhetoric, Sonko outlined a strategic pivot for Pastef, calling for intensified grassroots mobilization across the country. He called on party members to traverse every region of Senegal to strengthen the movement’s foundations and expand its reach. Additionally, he underscored the importance of deepening political and intellectual training among activists to reinforce the party’s commitment to republican values and long-term stability.
