Salomon Beas argues the MRC fails democratic standards
In a recent Facebook post, Salomon Beas, a former member of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC), launched a scathing critique against his former party, questioning its democratic credentials. His statement, titled “Tribal purge or democratic struggle within the MRC”, dissects what he describes as the party’s true nature.
“Etymologically, the MRC presented itself as a democratic platform, a political showcase where engaged citizens could nurture democratic values and plant the seeds for a better future for Cameroon. The reality, however, is far from this ideal. What we witnessed was nothing but an illusion, a facade that devours members from within, stripping them of their political agency and confining them to a system where tribal dominance dictates every move. The MRC we know hides a darker entity within—one ruled by influential tribal figures whose knives are always drawn, ready to politically annihilate anyone who dares challenge the ethno-tribal agenda masquerading as political strategy,” Beas wrote.
The former MRC activist accuses the party of reducing its members to mere followers of its leader, stripping them of any real influence or voice within the organization.
“…The late Paul Eric Kingue, may he rest in peace, had already exposed the MRC as an ethno-fascist sect using others as mere tools to climb the political ladder. He warned that the true objectives were known only to a select few, and those who opposed this vision faced systematic elimination. Time has proven him right. Today, tribalism overshadows ideas within the party, and elimination becomes a core operating principle. What we criticize in the RDPC, the MRC replicates with subtlety—replacing democratic ideals with tribal allegiance and a culture of subjugation to traditional chieftaincy rather than fostering genuine political engagement,” he continued.
