Togo and Egypt deepen economic and security ties at Seoul summit
The first-ever Korea-Africa ministerial meeting, held in Seoul on June 1 and 2, provided a platform for Togo’s Foreign Minister Robert Dussey to engage in high-level discussions with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty.
During their bilateral meeting, the two diplomats reviewed the current state of Togo-Egypt relations and explored fresh avenues for collaboration. Abdelatty highlighted the strong momentum driving ties between Lomé and Cairo, emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to scaling up its partnership with Togo.
The discussions covered a range of strategic sectors, with infrastructure, energy, agriculture, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and port development emerging as key areas for joint initiatives. Technology transfer and digital capacity-building were also central to the talks, seen as critical to driving economic transformation and modernizing public institutions across the continent.
Security and diplomatic cooperation in focus
Beyond economic ties, the ministers exchanged views on regional security challenges, particularly in the Great Lakes and the Sahel. Abdelatty commended Togo’s mediation efforts in resolving continental tensions, affirming Egypt’s backing for initiatives aimed at fostering peace, stability, and dialogue across Africa.
This high-level engagement reflects the shared resolve of both nations to strengthen their strategic partnership and reinforce South-South cooperation in addressing Africa’s development and security challenges.
