Algeria and Chad advance trans-saharan road project implementation
Abdelkader Djellaoui, Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, commenced a two-day working visit to the Republic of Chad on Wednesday. Leading a high-level delegation, the minister’s agenda focuses on assessing strategies to implement crucial joint infrastructure initiatives, particularly the ambitious Trans-Saharan Road project.
This significant visit aligns with directives from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and builds upon discussions held during the Chadian President’s recent trip to Algeria. It underscores a shared commitment to fostering a « concrete and pragmatic dimension » in bilateral cooperation, ultimately serving the developmental aspirations of both nations.
Minister Djellaoui, accompanied by Abed Hallouz, Director General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development (AICA), arrived at Hassan Djamous International Airport in N’Djamena on Wednesday evening. He received a warm welcome from Amir Idriss Kourda, Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Disenclavement, and Road Maintenance, alongside several other Chadian officials.
The Algerian delegation comprises over 14 experts and engineers, many of whom are making their second visit to the Republic of Chad to continue technical assessments initiated previously. Among the prominent figures are the CEO of « Cosider travaux publics », the CEO of the National Public Works Company (SNTP), and the Director General of the National Technical Control Body for Public Works (CTTP).
The public works sector stands as a pivotal driver for economic integration between Algeria and Chad. Algeria maintains a strong commitment to the Trans-Saharan Road project, recognizing its role as a strategic artery that will sustainably link the economies of both nations and the broader region. Consequently, this visit is primarily dedicated to the effective implementation of two critical sections of the Trans-Saharan Road within Chadian territory, essential links in this continental network.
Leveraging the extensive experience its national enterprises have gained in constructing major road infrastructure, particularly in challenging Saharan environments, Algeria is deploying its technical prowess and expertise to this endeavor. This commitment aims to catalyze « a major transformation and invigorate regional exchanges ».
The visit is anticipated to yield tangible outcomes, significantly strengthening Algeria-Chad cooperation in the vital areas of infrastructure and public works.
