Bénin welcomes 895 new recruits to police and environmental security forces
This week, the Bénin military training center in Bèmbèrèkè witnessed a historic milestone as 895 new recruits from the Republican Police and the Water and Forest Corps officially joined the ranks. The solemn ceremony, held amid an atmosphere of pride and determination, marked the culmination of their rigorous training.
The event brought together top government officials, including the ministers of Interior, Security, and National Defense, alongside senior military leadership such as the Chief of Staff of the Beninese Armed Forces and the Director General of the Republican Police. Their presence underscored the significance of this transition from civilian life to active duty.
A new chapter for national security
During the ceremony, the recruits were presented to the national flag, a symbolic gesture signifying their commitment to protecting the Republic and its natural heritage. Lieutenant-Colonel Armand Assogbaga, commandant of the training center, delivered a powerful address, emphasizing that the presentation was far more than a formality—it was a solemn oath requiring unwavering discipline, courage, and loyalty to the nation.
From training to action
The highlight of the day was the official flag presentation, followed by the awarding of the fourragère, a traditional military emblem. This honor recognized the recruits’ dedication and resilience throughout months of demanding physical and tactical training. For these new officers, it was a defining moment, symbolizing their transition into the ranks of the nation’s defenders against both security threats and environmental challenges.
The ceremony also served as a testament to the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Benin’s security apparatus and environmental protection initiatives. With these 895 recruits now fully integrated, the Republican Police and Water and Forest Corps are better equipped to address the evolving challenges facing the country.
