Bénin’s new supervised education officers graduate
Benin’s child protection services are gaining new operational capacity. On Friday, April 17, 2026, the School of Training for Judicial Professions (EFPJ) in Abomey-Calavi hosted the official graduation ceremony for supervised education students, concluding twelve months of intensive training. This marks a fresh infusion of talent into the juvenile justice system.
After a year of dedicated effort, these newly trained professionals are ready to enter the field. This cohort of agents, specializing in the protection of children and adolescents, will bolster a critical sector within Benin’s judicial framework. The solemn ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Mr. Florentin Gbodou, Cabinet Director for the Minister of Justice, and Mrs. Bernadette Houndekandji Codjovi, Director of the EFPJ.
Elite training blending theory and practice
The EFPJ Director took the opportunity to highlight curriculum advancements. The training program is now strategically divided into two phases:
- Six months of theoretical study to establish a strong foundation in legal and pedagogical principles.
- Six months of practical application for direct immersion into the realities of the profession.
“Your mission with minors in conflict with the law or in situations of moral danger is vital for strengthening our judicial protection system,” emphasized Mrs. Bernadette Houndekandji Codjovi to the graduates.
Responsibility and Humanism: the guiding principles
Representing the graduating class, Mr. Dalil Bankolé Idohou, expressed gratitude to the faculty. He reaffirmed the cohort’s commitment to serving with a clear focus on responsibility, humanism, and professionalism.
Mr. Florentin Gbodou, the Keeper of the Seals’ representative, urged the new officers to uphold integrity, highlighting the importance of:
- Rigor in case management.
- Dedication to vulnerable children.
- Proactive prevention of juvenile delinquency.
Immediate deployment expected
A key moment of the event was the symbolic presentation of diplomas. These newly qualified professionals will soon be placed at the disposal of the Keeper of the Seals for deployment across various supervised education facilities nationwide.
This graduation signifies another step forward in modernizing Benin’s justice system, prioritizing education and social reintegration in the care of young people.
