Chad and the Bahamas forge diplomatic ties
Chadian authorities have confirmed the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between Chad and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, marked by the signing of a joint communiqué in New York.
The pivotal document was signed on July 16 by Mouctar Abakar, Chad’s permanent representative to the United Nations, alongside his Bahamian counterpart, Stan James.
This communiqué outlines a mutual commitment from both nations to foster cooperation and friendship. Their agreement is founded on principles of sovereign equality, respect for national sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and the crucial tenet of non-interference in each other’s domestic affairs.
The Commonwealth of the Bahamas, a Caribbean island nation, boasts a population of approximately 420,000 and has maintained its independence from the United Kingdom since 1973. Its economy is predominantly driven by a robust tourism sector and sophisticated financial services. Globally recognized as a leading offshore financial hub, the Bahamas is often characterized as a tax haven, attributed to its favorable tax policies and the significant role of its international financial industry.
This formalization of diplomatic ties aligns with N’Djamena’s strategic objective to broaden and fortify its collaborations with nations across the global community.
