Chad: unveiling six decades of parliamentary history in new book

On Saturday, May 23, 2026, the blue hall of the National Office of Archives and Museums in Chad (ONAMA) hosted the unveiling of a groundbreaking book titled « The Evolution of Chadian Parliamentary Life from 1960 to 2020 », penned by former parliamentarian Issa Hassana Adoum.

Compiling over six years of meticulous research, this 612-page scholarly work is structured into five thematic chapters, meticulously documenting the institutional transformations, political milestones, and societal challenges that have shaped Chad’s parliamentary landscape since gaining independence in 1960. The author, a seasoned politician with firsthand experience in the National Assembly, presents a balanced narrative that highlights both the progress and setbacks of the country’s democratic institutions.

Dr. Issa Hassana Adoum emphasized that this publication serves as an essential academic resource for scholars, historians, and policymakers seeking to understand Chad’s political evolution. Beyond its scholarly value, the book is positioned as a foundational text for future generations, offering insights into the nation’s governance journey over the past six decades.

Originally derived from the author’s doctoral thesis, the manuscript has now been adapted into a comprehensive book accessible to a broader audience. Currently available exclusively in Arabic, the work has sparked significant interest, with attendees at the ceremony urging for an official French translation to expand its reach among researchers, students, and readers across the country.

The event concluded with a lively book-signing session, where attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with the author and receive personalized copies of the publication.
