Abidjan, 14 July 2026 — Côte d’Ivoire is set to host the second edition of the International Skills and Careers Forum (FIMEC) on 15 and 16 July at the Plateau district in Abidjan. The event will be chaired by Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé and aims to position vocational training as a key driver for job creation, economic competitiveness, and sustainable development across the nation.

A strategic shift in vocational training

The forum, organised by the National Agency for Vocational Training (AGEFOP) under the Ministry of Employment, Social Protection, and Vocational Training, adopts the theme: “Competencies, employment and economic transformation in Africa: the strategic role of vocational training.”

This year’s edition coincides with a major government reform that integrates vocational training into the broader framework of employment and social protection policies. The move reflects a clear commitment to building an integrated public policy that aligns skill development with decent job access and worker protection, all aimed at unleashing the full potential of human capital.

The initiative is rooted in the vision of President Alassane Ouattara and is led by Minister Adama Kamara. It directly supports the objectives of the 2026–2030 National Development Plan (PND), which identifies human capital as a cornerstone of Côte d’Ivoire’s structural economic transformation.

Mobilising investment through skill development

With over $80 billion in funding committed by technical and financial partners to support the PND, the development of relevant skills is now seen as essential to convert these investments into inclusive growth, sustainable jobs, and shared prosperity.

The two-day forum will bring together government officials, ambassadors, international organisation representatives, technical partners, business leaders, researchers, experts, and vocational training stakeholders. The programme features high-level panels, masterclasses, technical workshops, live job demonstrations, and dedicated networking spaces where companies and learners can connect.

Key themes shaping tomorrow’s workforce

Discussions will focus on critical challenges shaping the future of work, including artificial intelligence, digital transformation, green skills, soft skills, and the rapid evolution of professions. The goal is to equip young people, workers, and businesses with the tools needed to navigate a fast-changing job market.

Success stories to inspire change

The event will also highlight real-life success stories of women and men who have transformed their careers through vocational training. These examples will demonstrate how targeted training enhances employability, fosters entrepreneurship, and ensures that skills development aligns closely with market demands.
