Dakar court adjourns Mame Mbaye Niang versus Ousmane Sonko case to July 22
The high court in Dakar has postponed the hearing between Mame Mbaye Niang and Ousmane Sonko to July 22, 2026. The adjournment was granted at the request of the former prime minister’s legal team, allowing them additional time to review and respond to the arguments presented.
Mame Mbaye Niang originally took Ousmane Sonko to court seeking the annulment of what he claims was a fraudulent property transfer. He is requesting that the villa located in the Cité Keur Gorgui district be re-registered under his name, enabling him to collect the 200 million CFA francs in damages and interest awarded to him by a previous court ruling.
Ousmane Sonko was definitively sentenced to two months in prison and ordered to pay 200 million CFA francs in damages to Mame Mbaye Niang. With this judgment in hand, Niang attempted to enforce it. However, he encountered a major obstacle: the leasehold rights to the villa, situated on a 264-square-metre plot at lot R/17 in Cité Keur Gorgui, had reportedly been transferred to the family of the Pastef leader.
According to Mame Mbaye Niang and his lawyers, this transfer is a deliberate strategy designed to render Ousmane Sonko insolvent and shield the property from seizure. They allege that the former minister knowingly moved the house to avoid enforcement of the financial penalty.
The case had previously been heard and then adjourned to June 10. That earlier postponement allowed Mame Mbaye Niang’s legal team to prepare their rebuttal to the submissions made by Ousmane Sonko’s defence.
