Gabon prosecutor general Eddy Minang suspended three months over influence peddling suspicions
By decision number 000007/MJGSCDH issued on June 9, 2026, the Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, Augustin Emane, notified senior magistrate Dr. Eddy Narcisse Minang, Prosecutor General at the Libreville Judicial Court of Appeal, of a precautionary suspension from his duties for a three-month period. The suspension takes immediate effect, and interim leadership has been handed to Thalie Aubone Nguema Edjo, also a high-ranking magistrate, in line with the principle of continuity of public service.
Dr. Eddy Minang sidelined from the judiciary for three months and counting
The provisional removal is reportedly tied to heavy suspicions of interference and obstruction of public action. At the center of the storm are several controversial financial cases, including a dispute involving the company Covec Gabon, with an estimated amount of 4 billion CFA francs. However, the true trigger appears to be the so-called Directorate of Financial Affairs (DCAF) case within the Ministry of National Education.
Made public in early June 2026 by the public prosecutor at the Libreville First Instance Tribunal, Dick Fabrice Boungou Mikolo, this overbilling affair led to the arrest of about twenty officials, with financial damages estimated between 560 and 700 million CFA francs. The suspended prosecutor general is suspected of having used his influence to short-circuit the ongoing investigation. It is believed that this inexplicable intervention may stem from geographical connections with the director of the DCAF, both hailing from the Woleu-Ntem region.
