Gabon’s President Sets Out to Modernize Finances and Prioritize Development
President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema has called for a new era of financial management in Gabon, with the goal of putting the country’s finances at the service of national priorities and major development projects.
The President’s vision is to mobilize revenue more effectively, with a focus on identifying legitimate exemptions from taxes and customs duties.
He has also instructed the creation of an audit that will assess which tax breaks are still justified and those that have expired but continue to unfairly deprive the state of significant resources.
The President has made it clear that there will be no more handouts without a tangible impact on the economy.

The President has also emphasized the importance of digitalization and integration between financial administration agencies, as well as the need for a sustainable debt strategy.
He wants to improve revenue collection, increase transparency and make public action more effective.

The President has also stated that each franc collected must be translated into tangible results for the Gabonese people, with a focus on education, healthcare, infrastructure, and basic services.

The President has also announced that this new approach will be institutionalized, with regular meetings to review revenue mobilization, budget execution and debt management.
This approach will also be applied to other priority sectors such as healthcare, education, construction, water and energy.
With this initiative, the President is reaffirming his commitment to establishing a governance based on performance, rigor and responsibility, in order to achieve sustainable development and improve the well-being of Gabonese citizens.
