Gabon’s president to make official visit to France in july 2026
Gabon’s Head of State Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema has confirmed plans to undertake an official visit to France on 20 July 2026, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
Speaking publicly, President Oligui Nguema outlined that this visit will deepen existing cooperation initiatives while addressing pressing bilateral agendas, including economic collaboration, environmental conservation, and security concerns. The discussions are expected to cover the Bassin du Congo forest preservation, sustainable resource management, and joint efforts to combat climate change.
This upcoming visit follows the President’s first official trip to France in late May 2024, where he engaged in high-level meetings, including an audience with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace. That trip culminated in a Franco-Gabonese economic forum in Paris, attended by nearly 600 business leaders, and productive exchanges with the Gabonese diaspora.
France’s commitment to Gabon’s transition
France has consistently demonstrated its support for Gabon’s political transition, with President Macron visiting Libreville twice since 2017. His most recent trip in November 2025 underscored France’s backing of the new leadership, emphasizing a renewed partnership based on equality and mutual respect.
During that visit, key agreements were finalized, including initiatives to train Gabonese security forces, establish a natural resource protection academy, and upgrade the Transgabonais railway. These projects reflect France’s long-term investment in Gabon’s stability and development.
Building a balanced partnership
The upcoming visit in July 2026 signals Gabon’s commitment to maintaining a strategic and balanced relationship with France. Since the 2024 Paris meetings and the 2025 Libreville summit, diplomatic momentum has accelerated, reinforcing the importance of this alliance in shaping the future of both nations.
