How the WHO supports NGOs in Mali’s health sector

WHO strengthens health support for NGOs in Mali amid growing crisis

The World Health Organization (WHO) has led health cluster coordination in Mali since 2012, ensuring partners work together effectively. In 2025, the country faces a severe humanitarian crisis, with 6.4 million people—about 28% of its population—needing urgent aid. The humanitarian response plan is only 8.5% funded, and just 6% is allocated to health, leaving critical gaps in care for vulnerable communities.

To address this, the second reserve allocation from the Humanitarian Fund for Rapid Response Activities in Africa (FHRAOC) targets displaced populations affected by armed violence and instability, particularly in Gao, Mopti, and Ségou. Health services were prioritized for funding due to WHO’s evidence-based advocacy, highlighting the urgent need for essential medical care in these regions.
