Ivory coast hosts key forum on textile care industry growth

Ivory Coast gathers African textile care experts to boost industry modernization

Abidjan’s economic hub is hosting the third edition of the Forum africain des professionnels de l’entretien textile (FAPET) since May 20, 2026. The three-day event at Abidjan-Plateau brings together textile care professionals from across Africa to address modernization and industrialization challenges in the sector.

Sustainable industrialization takes center stage

The forum’s theme, ‘Structuring, ecological transition and innovation: steering toward sustainable industrialization in African textile care’, was inaugurated with the presence of Soro Mamadou, representing the president of the Economic, Social, Environmental and Cultural Council (CESEC).

Speaking on behalf of Dr. Eugène Aka Aouélé, Soro Mamadou emphasized that textile care has evolved from a secondary activity into a key economic driver. ‘This sector now plays a crucial role in job creation, environmental protection and service enhancement, particularly in health and tourism,’ he stated to delegates from across the continent.

The forum highlighted the need for Africa to develop its own value chains, upgrade infrastructure and professionalize its workforce to meet international standards.

Industry challenges and opportunities

Yoboué Célestin-Arthur, president of the African Federation of Textile Care Professionals (FAPET), outlined persistent hurdles such as informal practices, technical training gaps, limited access to financing and the urgency of ecological transition.

He commended the commitment of sector leaders, including Fayçal Belaroussi, vice president of FAPET and president of Algeria’s National Pressing and Laundry Association, and Adebayo, president of the Fabricare Professionals and Dryclean Association.

Strategic focus for Ivory Coast and beyond

Organizers aim to position the forum as a catalyst for Ivory Coast’s economy by fostering experience-sharing, public-private partnerships and modern, eco-friendly practices.

The event, running until May 22, 2026, will prioritize discussions on hospital, industrial and household linen management while exploring pathways for large-scale industrialization in Africa’s textile care sector.
