Legal action launched against ousmane sonko over touba remarks

A legal complaint has been filed with the Prosecutor of the Republic at the Dakar High Court against Ousmane Sonko, former Prime Minister, current National Assembly President, and leader of the PASTEF party.

The complaint, submitted by a collective of Serigne Touba’s descendants, seeks the opening of an investigation following statements made by Mr. Sonko during the inauguration of his party’s headquarters. He alleged that “dirty money entered the holy city of Touba,” according to the plaintiffs.

The group, identifying itself as Senegalese citizens, young intellectuals, and economic operators—along with descendants of Touba’s founder—contends that these remarks tarnish the honor, reputation, and dignity of the holy city and its residents.

In their filing, they request the Prosecutor to initiate an inquiry, summon Ousmane Sonko to clarify his statements, and provide evidence supporting his claims. Additionally, they urge full investigations to determine the accuracy or baselessness of his allegations.
