Cameroon’s representation at the African Union summit
President Paul Biya, having recently returned to Yaoundé, will not be physically present at the 21st extraordinary session of the African Union Conference of Heads of State and Government, scheduled for August 30th in Luanda. Instead, the Cameroonian leader has entrusted Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute with the crucial mandate of representing Cameroon at this significant gathering.
Prime Minister Ngute departed Yaoundé on Saturday, heading for Luanda, Angola. This extraordinary session is dedicated to enhancing Africa’s mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution. Key discussions will address various ongoing crises, including the persistent Boko Haram insurgency in Cameroon’s Far North region and the complex separatist movement affecting the country’s Anglophone areas.
Following his participation in the Angolan summit, the Prime Minister is set to travel to Serbia. There, he will again stand in for President Biya at a high-level meeting commemorating the 65th anniversary of the inaugural Conference of Heads of State and Government of Non-Aligned Countries. This event is scheduled to take place in Belgrade from August 31st to September 1st, 2026.
