Eyewitness accounts in Fulfulde and Bambara reveal coordinated strikes on five villages in the Bandiagara region.

Armed groups, identified as Jnim, launched simultaneous assaults between 5 and 6 p.m. on Logo, Soulakanda, Dimbal in Dimbal commune, and Ogossagou, Kouroundé in Bankass commune. Local defense forces, including traditional Dozo hunters, clashed with the attackers, who have increasingly targeted areas where state security forces are absent.

Initial reports indicate at least 20 fatalities, including several Dozo hunters and civilians. A Dozo leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, criticized the military’s failure to respond during the assaults, with no official statement released afterward. When contacted for comment, army representatives declined to respond.

Residents flee amid fresh security concerns

Panic has driven many residents from their homes toward nearby towns, particularly Bankass, where displaced populations are already at critical levels. Aid workers warn that the latest violence could overwhelm humanitarian resources in the area. Earlier attacks in the same region earlier this month left more than 50 people dead, deepening fears of escalating instability.

A spokesperson for Jnim had previously threatened to strike villages harboring Dozo bases unless local agreements were reached with the group. The recent violence appears to be a direct response to communities refusing such terms.
