Morocco and the un economic commission for Africa discuss continental integration

Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the African Union and the Economic Commission for Africa (CEA), recently engaged in discussions with Claver Gatete, the Executive Secretary of the CEA, in Addis Ababa. The high-level meeting focused on enhancing the robust cooperation between the Kingdom and the United Nations economic body.

During their exchange, both officials underscored Morocco’s unwavering dedication to fostering African integration and driving the continent’s overall development.

Mr. Gatete took the opportunity to commend Morocco’s pivotal role in successfully hosting the 58th session of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, which convened in Tangier from March 28 to April 3. He also acknowledged the consistent and valuable support Morocco provides to the various initiatives and operations of the Economic Commission for Africa.

The UN official further lauded Morocco’s exemplary achievements in the realm of technical and vocational education and training. He described the Moroccan approach as an innovative and comprehensive model, particularly highlighting its effectiveness in integrating skill development, cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, and the evolving demands of industrialization.

Recognizing the profound economic and technological transformations sweeping across Africa, Mr. Gatete advocated for the broader adoption of Morocco’s successful experience. He urged for its dissemination to benefit other nations on the continent. Moreover, he called for greater recognition and promotion of Moroccan success stories to facilitate the widespread sharing of best practices throughout Africa.

Since the establishment of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in 1958, Morocco has consistently been an active participant in its proceedings and a steadfast supporter of its development programs. This enduring commitment significantly contributes to advancing regional cooperation and accelerating the continent’s economic integration.
