Morocco Senegal shared history showcased through photography in Dakar
The ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco in Senegal, Hassan Naciri, inaugurated a unique exhibition on Tuesday, July 14, at the residence of the Moroccan embassy in Dakar. The event, titled “Morocco–Senegal: a shared history, a common destiny”, brought together prominent figures from the political, diplomatic, and media spheres to celebrate the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.
Among the attendees were Bakary Sarr, Senegal’s Minister of Communication and government spokesperson, and Amadou Tidiane Wone, Presidential Advisor at the Republic of Senegal. Lamine Niang, CEO of Le Soleil, also participated, highlighting the exhibition’s cultural and historical significance.
The exhibition features a curated collection of vintage photographs, press clippings, and archival documents, primarily sourced from Le Soleil. It traces key milestones in the cooperation between Dakar and Rabat, showcasing a relationship built over decades on historical, political, cultural, and religious foundations.
a dialogue between past and future
During the inauguration, Ambassador Naciri emphasized that the exhibition transcends mere nostalgia. “This showcase allows us to revisit the defining moments of an exceptional relationship while reminding us of our shared responsibility to preserve this legacy for future generations,” he stated. “It is our duty to nurture this bond, enrich it continuously, and ensure its continuity. This heritage was entrusted to us by our Sovereigns, Senegalese Presidents, and all those who contributed to its foundation.”
educational and cultural exchanges on display
Lamine Niang underscored the exhibition’s role in highlighting the tangible benefits of Morocco-Senegal cooperation. “This partnership demonstrates that genuine African solidarity thrives when rooted in trust and a shared vision beyond mere interests,” he explained. “Today, thousands of Senegalese students pursue higher education in Morocco, while Moroccan students contribute to the vibrancy of Senegal’s universities.”
The exhibition not only serves as a reminder of the past but also as a testament to the resilience of Morocco-Senegal relations. By focusing on collaboration and mutual growth, the event reinforces the commitment of both nations to building a shared future.
