Niger-Algeria ties deepen: PM Ghrieb meets President Tiani in Niamey
Niger’s Prime Minister, Sifi Ghrieb, met with the country’s President, General Abdourahamane Tiani, in Niamey this week to strengthen bilateral ties.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Ghrieb conveyed the warm greetings and personal commitment of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to deepen fraternity, solidarity, and cooperation between the two neighboring nations.
Landmark power plant project set for accelerated completion
Discussions centered on reviewing cooperation frameworks and assessing progress from President Tiani’s recent visit to Algeria in February, as well as the outcomes of his discussions with President Tebboune. Both sides also revisited agreements made during the second session of the Algeria-Niger High-Level Joint Commission held in Niamey last March.
President Tiani expressed deep appreciation for President Tebboune’s leadership in prioritizing bilateral cooperation, which has led to the rapid realization of a critical power plant project. This achievement underscores the strong bonds of solidarity between the two nations and their shared determination to build a robust, diversified partnership that advances mutual interests and fulfills the developmental aspirations of their peoples.
Southern cooperation at its finest
President Tiani praised the swift implementation of joint initiatives, calling the rapid pace of Algeria-Niger cooperation a shining example of effective South-South collaboration. He reaffirmed his and President Tebboune’s shared commitment to elevating bilateral relations to unprecedented heights.
For his part, Prime Minister Ghrieb commended the remarkable progress in bilateral cooperation over a short period, noting that both countries have entered a new phase of political engagement with concrete on-the-ground results. This progress is attributed to the strong leadership and regular, rigorous follow-up by both heads of state.
Regional stability and economic integration take center stage
Prime Minister Ghrieb reaffirmed Algeria’s dedication to reinforcing bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including energy, hydrocarbons, infrastructure, health, education, digital transformation, and transportation. He emphasized the importance of advancing structured projects that drive economic development and regional integration.
The talks also addressed trade and economic cooperation programs, with both sides stressing the need to accelerate project timelines to bolster economic growth and strengthen regional unity. On a broader scale, the leaders examined regional challenges, reaffirming their commitment to continued bilateral dialogue and coordination to enhance peace, security, and stability across the Sahel.
