As of June 29, 2026, the construction of the access roads to the bridge over the Nyong River at Malombo in Nyong-et-Kellé is nearing completion. Following the finalization of the road surface works, the CFHEC team has now begun the signaling and sanitation work.

The construction of the access roads to the Malombo bridge over the Nyong River is nearly complete. The construction firm has started signaling work in recent days, while sanitation activities are ongoing. These access roads, spanning 960 meters across both riverbanks, feature a cross-section with 1×2 lanes of 3.5 meters each, complemented by 1.5-meter shoulders on either side.

The road structure consists of a 25 cm lateritic foundation layer, a 20 cm crushed gravel base layer (0/31.5), and a 5 cm bituminous concrete wearing course. Meanwhile, the Nyong River bridge itself is also in its final stages of construction.

According to Public Works officials, there is no doubt the Malombo bridge over the Nyong River will be delivered ahead of schedule—approximately eight months before the original completion date. By June 11, the Nyong River waters had receded enough to allow the 160-meter-long structure to be built. The completed spans, part of a steel-concrete composite bridge design, now stand ready to facilitate local crossings. The access road construction efforts are also progressing steadily.

The CFHEC team is now focusing on finalizing the project, which includes oversight from the INTEGC/GENERAL ENGINEERING consortium. Behind this coordinated effort stands the Project Owner, the Minister of Public Works, whose continuous monitoring and support have ensured smooth progress since the project’s inception.

The project’s execution has not been without challenges: disputes over construction camp sites, difficult acclimatization for expatriate workers, fuel theft from company tanks, occasional hostility from local communities, theft at the construction site, pending payments, torrential rains, and rising river levels—despite these hurdles, the construction firm remains committed to its initial promise to deliver the bridge ahead of schedule, as instructed by the Project Owner.
