Oligui Nguema’s upcoming state visit to Paris poised to solidify France-Gabon alliance
Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema is scheduled to undertake an imminent state visit to Paris, a landmark announcement made by French Ambassador Fabrice Mauriès during the French National Day festivities on July 14 at the French Embassy in Libreville. The diplomat characterized this upcoming engagement as the “highest level of protocol possible” and a “crucial milestone in reinforcing our bond” between the two nations.
Addressing Gabonese dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives from the French community, Fabrice Mauriès confirmed, “In the coming days, His Excellency the President of the Gabonese Republic, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, will travel to Paris for a state visit. This represents the pinnacle of diplomatic protocol and will undoubtedly mark a decisive phase in strengthening our relationship.”
The Ambassador highlighted that this renewed momentum aligns with the ongoing dialogue initiated in 2023. He recalled President Oligui Nguema’s official visit to Paris in spring 2024, followed by President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Libreville. “This partnership, whose scope continues to expand, is undergoing constant redefinition,” Mauriès asserted, suggesting that these high-level meetings are charting a new course for Franco-Gabonese cooperation.

Reaffirming Paris’s stance concerning Gabon’s transitional government, Philippe Mauriès declared, “France was not involved, as it is solely up to the Gabonese people to determine Gabon’s fundamental choices.” Nevertheless, he assured that “France has never withdrawn; it remains and will continue to be a trustworthy, loyal, committed, and resolute partner dedicated to assisting the Gabonese in shaping this new collective future.”
The Ambassador concluded by stating that this visit aims to concretize a fresh vision for economic relations between the two countries. “We will forge the mutually beneficial, win-win partnership that the President of the Gabonese Republic desires, and which President Macron has affirmed is also our vision,” he indicated, adding that “new projects reflecting this vision will be announced in Paris in a few days.”
Since the change in regime in August 2023, Gabon and France have embarked on a gradual recalibration of their bilateral ties. Reciprocal visits by Presidents Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and Emmanuel Macron have inaugurated a new era of political, economic, and security cooperation. The Gabonese head of state’s state visit to Paris is poised to signify a further deepening of this rapprochement, with the anticipated unveiling of several strategic initiatives designed to bolster the partnership between the two nations.
