Ousmane sonko galvanizes pastef base in mbacké, sets ambitious membership targets

The city of Mbacké recently hosted Ousmane Sonko, the prominent leader of the “Patriots” movement and president of Pastef. His visit marked the official launch of the party’s crucial membership card sales campaign, a strategic initiative as Pastef gears up for upcoming electoral challenges, with the 2029 presidential election firmly in its sights. Addressing an assembly of dedicated activists, Sonko’s initial focus was on fostering unity within the ranks.
Recognizing internal tensions among certain local officials, including Doctor Fall Mbaye, Deputy Ahmadou Lö, and Moustapha Diop, whom he personally named, Ousmane Sonko urged them to set aside differences and work collaboratively. “I have advocated for this everywhere I have been. Everyone must join hands. This is not the time for disputes. Unity must prevail,” he declared emphatically, underscoring that cohesion is a strategic imperative for the party’s success. Following this powerful call for harmony, Sonko lauded the remarkable enthusiasm the membership drive had already generated in Mbacké since its initial announcement.
“Today, well before 4 PM, all 13,000 cards dispatched here were purchased. A new order had to be placed with Dakar,” Ousmane Sonko proudly announced. He further noted that the immense interest in the movement even led to technical saturation on the online membership platform, a clear testament to the widespread support for Pastef.

Buoyed by this overwhelming success, the Pastef leader articulated an ambitious goal: to enlist one million members solely within the Mbacké department by October, the designated deadline for the sales campaign. “I am confident that the Mbacké department, by itself, can generate this million members,” he proclaimed to a cheering crowd.

Beyond the drive for mobilization, Ousmane Sonko also took the opportunity to guide his supporters’ discourse and issue warnings to adversaries. He implored his militants to prioritize composure and avoid confrontation. “Do not fight with anyone. Do not respond to any provocation. If peace prevails in Senegal, Pastef will sweep all elections in this country. No election will elude us,” he asserted. He further advised activists to concentrate on their core tasks and disregard “those who hold no true responsibility, have no one behind them, and lack a political party.”
