Ousmane sonko outlines pastef’s strategic direction at cité keur gorgui meeting
With its inaugural national congress on the horizon, the leadership of Pastef convened on Friday, May 15, at the Cité Keur Gorgui residence of its leader, Ousmane Sonko. The gathering aimed to steer the party towards its most significant structural transformation. Esteemed historical figures and pivotal lieutenants, including El Malick Ndiaye, Birame Souleye Diop, Yassine Fall, Daouda Ngom, and Ayib Daffé, were present at the crucial meeting.

The agenda for the session was entirely shaped by the political landscape of the coming weeks. Discussions primarily focused on the logistical and political dimensions of the national congress, scheduled for June 6, 2026. While the precise venue remains undecided, there is a strong possibility it could be held in Diamniadio.

Sonko is deeply committed to the triumph of the congress, viewing its success as paramount. The Pastef leader seeks to unequivocally demonstrate the enduring strength of his political influence. “We must ensure the congress is a success and remobilize the party,” he urged his closest associates. Beyond the congress itself, Ousmane Sonko extensively emphasized the critical need to restructure Pastef, aiming for enhanced clarity and operational efficiency.

The leader of the Patriots also addressed the vital issue of reinvigorating the party’s base. He asserted the imperative of active engagement on the ground, reaching even the most remote areas. Following the deliberations, El Malick Ndiaye, a Pastef official and President of the National Assembly, conveyed on his Facebook page that “beyond challenges, promising prospects are emerging for our nation and our collective endeavor. These are perspectives imbued with hope, progress, and sovereignty, which we will continue to forge together, with unwavering faith, discipline, and commitment.”
