A significant declaration from Ousmane Sonko, leader of PASTEF-Les Patriotes, has emerged via the party’s social media channels.
Sonko revealed that extensive consultations took place between himself and the President of the Republic, but these discussions ultimately failed to resolve key points of disagreement.
Ousmane Sonko detailed the morning’s lengthy exchange with the President, noting that while certain common ground was established, significant divergences persisted. A primary concern centered on the undefined position and function of the majority within the executive framework, the structure of which, Sonko stated, remained entirely unclear to them.
Consequently, the statement affirmed, “PASTEF-Les Patriotes will not be part of the upcoming government, nor will it have any ministerial representation.”
Statement from the PASTEF Executive Committee
In adherence to its commitment to responsibility and the pledges made by President Ousmane Sonko during his parliamentary inauguration, PASTEF-Les Patriotes initiated multiple discussions with the President of the Republic concerning the formation of the new government.
This morning, a comprehensive meeting occurred between the President of the Republic and President Ousmane Sonko. While areas of agreement were acknowledged, fundamental disagreements arose, particularly regarding the role and position of the majority within the executive framework, the precise structure of which remains undisclosed.
Following a feedback session with party bodies, revised proposals were presented to the President of the Republic; however, these did not receive a positive response.
Therefore, PASTEF-Les Patriotes will not participate in the forthcoming government and will not have any ministers representing it.
Further details will be provided subsequently.
We extend our best wishes to the new administration.
