Ousmane Sonko takes on leadership role at new parliamentary evaluation committee in Senegal

The Committee for the Evaluation of Public Policies (CEPP) is specifically tasked with structuring, guiding, and monitoring parliamentary assessments of public policies. Its primary goal is to enhance the oversight of public action and improve the effectiveness of implemented policies.
Senegal’s National Assembly has taken a significant step towards strengthening parliamentary scrutiny. On Friday, August 21, 2026, deputies convened for the inaugural meeting of the Committee for the Evaluation of Public Policies (CEPP), focusing on its official establishment and the election of its executive Bureau.
This formal launch marks a pivotal moment in Senegalese parliamentary affairs. Envisioned since the constitutional revision of 2016, the evaluation of public policies is now fully operational within the National Assembly. The CEPP’s mandate includes organizing, leading, and tracking parliamentary evaluations of governmental initiatives, thereby bolstering the monitoring of state activities and ensuring the greater efficacy of policies in practice.
Composition of the Committee for the Evaluation of Public Policies
The committee comprises key parliamentary figures: the President of the National Assembly, the presidents of the various parliamentary groups, the representative for non-registered deputies, the chairs of the 14 permanent commissions, along with nine additional deputies and their alternates. These members are appointed proportionally based on the administratively constituted parliamentary groups, with consideration given to proposals from non-registered deputies.
Following its initial assembly, the CEPP’s Bureau was officially established. Ousmane Sonko, who serves as the President of the National Assembly, will also preside over this new committee. He is supported by Mohamed Sall as the First Vice-President and Djimo Souaré as the Second Vice-President. Béatrice Germaine Faye assumes the role of First Secretary, while Adama Diallo is appointed as the Second Secretary.
With the inauguration of this crucial committee, the National Assembly aims to provide a concrete framework for the parliamentary evaluation of public policies, thereby reinforcing its vital role in overseeing governmental actions and ensuring accountability.
