One year after lifting the coveted trophy in Munich, Paris Saint-Germain once again triumphed in the Champions League, securing victory against Arsenal this Saturday, May 30, in Budapest.

Suspense to the very end

The final did not begin favorably for the Parisian side, with Arsenal netting an early goal just five minutes after kickoff.

Trailing in the first half, the Parisians had to wait until the 64th minute for a breakthrough, when French Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé successfully converted a penalty, leveling the score at 1-1.

Supporters from both clubs endured heart-stopping moments as neither the full 90 minutes of regular play nor the subsequent 30 minutes of extra time could separate PSG and Arsenal. Ultimately, it was a dramatic penalty shootout that saw Paris Saint-Germain claim their second consecutive ‘big-eared’ trophy.

A truly legendary victory

The Parisian club has now etched its name into football history, earning its second consecutive European star. Prior to this achievement, only Real Madrid, under the guidance of Zinédine Zidane, had managed to win the Champions League twice in a row in the modern era of the competition, even achieving three consecutive titles from 2016 to 2018.

Focus shifts to the World Cup

Six French players who participated in this 71st Champions League final – Lucas Hernandez, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Désiré Doué, Bradley Barcola, and Ousmane Dembélé from PSG, alongside William Saliba from Arsenal – will now join the French national team at Clairefontaine to commence preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. A friendly match is scheduled for this Thursday, June 4, in Nantes, at the Stade de la Beaujoire, where France will face Côte d’Ivoire.
