Rwandan president Paul Kagame arrives in Lomé for working visit

Rwandan president Paul Kagame is scheduled to touch down in Lomé on Monday, 15 June 2026, for a working visit laden with diplomatic significance. The meeting with Council president Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé is designed to deepen bilateral ties between Togo and Rwanda.

During his stay, the two leaders are expected to address several topics of mutual interest, including bilateral cooperation, peace and security matters across the continent, and issues linked to African integration.

This visit comes as Togo steps up its mediation efforts in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo crisis. The two presidents previously held talks in Kigali as part of consultations aimed at stabilising the Great Lakes region.

Over the years, Lomé and Kigali have steadily expanded their partnership across multiple sectors, turning their relationship into a model of South-South cooperation in Africa.

President Kagame’s arrival in Lomé clearly reflects the strong ties between the two nations and their shared determination to strengthen collaboration for the continent’s development and stability.
