During the opening of the second ordinary session of the Senate in Yaoundé, Senate President Aboubakary Abdoulaye delivered a powerful message to the Cameroonian government, calling for urgent and robust measures to address the growing crisis of sexual violence against children and feminicides plaguing the country.
As Lamido of Rey Bouba, Abdoulaye emphasized the gravity of these crimes, which he described as increasingly alarming, and insisted that they demand immediate and decisive action from authorities.
The Senate session, attended by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, the President of the National Assembly, and key government officials, provided a platform for Abdoulaye to condemn the relentless violations of human dignity, bodily integrity, and the fundamental right to life that these acts represent.
« Sexual abuse of women and children, as well as feminicides, must be combated with unwavering determination,» he declared, urging the government to put an end to these horrific crimes.
His remarks come at a time of national outrage following the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl in Yaoundé. The case has sparked widespread protests and public outcry, reigniting discussions about the urgent need for stronger preventative measures and harsher penalties against gender-based violence.
