Senegal parliament grills Ousmane Sonko’s government in latest accountability session

Dakar — Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and his cabinet ministers are set to face lawmakers today in a structured accountability session mandated by the constitution. This quarterly exercise, outlined under Article 104 of the National Assembly’s standing orders, ensures government actions remain under parliamentary scrutiny.

The two-hour session will feature 14 questions, with ten allocated to the ruling Pastef-Les patriotes group, two to the opposition Takku Wallu bloc, and two reserved for independent deputies. The format underscores the legislature’s role in maintaining transparency over public policy implementation.

Presiding over the proceedings is Ismaëla Diallo, First Vice-President of the National Assembly, marking the fifth such session since the current government took office. This institutional routine highlights the evolving relationship between the executive branch and the legislative body in Senegal’s democratic framework.
