Senegal political debate: may mounouna sène challenges ousmane sonko on accountability
May Mounouna Sène, a senior figure in the Alliance Pour la République (APR) party, has publicly challenged Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to substantiate his claims with concrete evidence in court rather than relying on political rhetoric. Her remarks underscore growing concerns about governance and transparency in Senegal’s leadership.
In a sharp critique, May Mounouna Sène, a member of the APR’s national executive committee, accused the government of deflecting public scrutiny through what she termed ‘judicial populism’ and ‘strategic distractions.’ She insisted that accountability is a mandatory institutional obligation, not a political tool to sway public opinion.
Demands for economic focus amid rising public pressure
Sène emphasized that Senegal’s leadership must prioritize urgent economic and social challenges, including inflation control, job creation, and economic recovery. These priorities, she argued, should take precedence over political posturing and unfounded accusations.
She directly addressed Ousmane Sonko, stating, “If you possess evidence, present it to the courts and allow judges to carry out their duties without interference.” Her call reflects broader frustrations among citizens and political observers who demand decisive action over rhetoric.
The former lawmaker also urged the Prime Minister to move beyond rhetoric and demonstrate leadership through tangible results. She stressed the importance of setting an example in public service, urging Sonko to align his actions with the expectations of the Senegalese people.
