Senegalese political tensions: modou mbacké bara dolly slams ousmane sonko
A direct challenge to the Pastef leader

The political atmosphere in Sénégal remains significantly charged, particularly concerning constitutional reform and the dynamics between key figures across the majority and opposition. This Sunday, Modou Mbacké Bara Dolly, a former parliamentary group president for the PDS, launched a sharp critique against Ousmane Sonko.

During a notably aggressive address, he branded the Pastef leader as the “greatest manipulator on the political stage,” faulting him for inconsistent stances and repeated, unsubstantiated accusations.

Allegations concerning several critical issues

The former deputy specifically referenced several matters that have shaped Senegalese political discourse in recent years. These include the Adji Sarr affair, claims of alleged 10 million F CFA payments to members of parliament, and the rumor of a public account supposedly holding 1,000 billion F CFA.

According to Modou Mbacké Bara Dolly, these assertions have never been substantiated. “The deputies never received the 10 million he spoke of. It was false,” he declared, casting doubt on the credibility of Ousmane Sonko’s past statements.

Questioning Sonko’s political consistency

Modou Mbacké Bara Dolly further accused the current President of the National Assembly of retracting some of his earlier positions. He believes that Sonko’s political rhetoric has evolved to contradict his initial commitments.

Dolly asserts that the former Prime Minister has gradually moved away from the reformist agenda he once championed, adopting a stance now seemingly focused on his personal political ambitions.

Disclosures on past political alliances

The former PDS parliamentary official also discussed interactions between Ousmane Sonko and other political figures from the past, claiming that discussions took place regarding potential electoral alliances.

He further contended that these talks allegedly involved Karim Wade concerning a prospective presidential candidacy, while also stating that Sonko reportedly did not want other Pastef leaders to represent the party.

Constitutional debate at the core of tensions

Finally, Modou Mbacké Bara Dolly addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding the constitutional revision. In his view, the current debate extends beyond merely President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s person and directly impacts the nation’s institutional stability.

He believes that certain ongoing initiatives aim to fundamentally alter the power structure, a move he firmly opposes.

“It’s not about Diomaye, but about the Constitution,” he concluded.
