Senegal’s new cabinet formed, excluding pastef amid political shifts
On the evening of Monday, June 1st, Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Mohamed Lô officially presented Senegal’s newly formed government. This cabinet consists of 30 ministers, yet it conspicuously excludes the PASTEF party, a significant political force. The party, led by prominent figure Ousmane Sonko, declared its refusal to participate in the new administration, citing “points of disagreement” as the basis for its decision.
This development unfolds against a backdrop of recent political realignments in Dakar. Just days prior, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Ousmane Sonko was elected to the presidency of the National Assembly. This election followed his recent dismissal from the position of Prime Minister by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, adding a complex layer to the current political landscape and the reasons behind PASTEF’s non-inclusion in the new government.
