Strengthening french-moroccan ties highlighted by ambassador philippe lalliot
The French Embassy in Morocco hosted a gathering in Rabat on July 14 to mark France‘s National Day, attended by over 1,500 guests. Ambassador Philippe Lalliot underscored the evolving nature of bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
«From Rabat to Casablanca, Tanger, Marrakech, and Laâyoune—where I recently inaugurated the city’s first Alliance Française—our conversations aren’t just about the future; they’re actively shaping it, day by day,» he remarked, joined by Mohamed Saad Berrada, Morocco’s Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, standing in for the national government.
During his address, Lalliot spotlighted the broad scope of Morocco–France collaboration, referencing a July 2024 letter from French President Emmanuel Macron to King Mohammed VI. In that correspondence, Macron acknowledged that the future of the Sahara must align with Morocco’s sovereignty. «Together, our diplomacies champion the core values that underpin international order and multilateral institutions,» Lalliot affirmed.
He also emphasized that «France remains Morocco’s leading foreign investor and employer, with French companies having played a pivotal role in advancing Morocco’s industrial growth for more than a decade.» Looking ahead, the ambassador outlined key priorities for the partnership: «Addressing global challenges through shared solutions and reinforcing our collective security; supporting sectors that will fuel tomorrow’s economies; and nurturing friendship and mutual understanding, especially among our youth, who represent the future of France–Morocco relations.»
The envoy also celebrated the «deep human connection» between the peoples of France and Morocco, noting how vibrant diaspora communities continue to strengthen these bonds.
