Strengthening youth innovation through Maroc-Golfe forum

Financing pathways for young entrepreneurs in green, digital and blue economies

The three-day Morocco-Gulf Forum on Youth Economic and Social Empowerment concluded in Casablanca this week with a powerful call for tailored financing solutions to support youth-led innovative projects. The initiative, jointly organized by Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretariat General, brought together 100 young leaders, experts, institutional officials and entrepreneurs from both sides of the Mediterranean.

At the heart of the discussions was the urgent need for adaptive funding mechanisms that align with the evolving demands of today’s job market. Special emphasis was placed on three high-potential sectors: green economy initiatives, digital transformation projects and blue economy ventures—particularly those involving renewable energy and water resource management.

Youth empowerment as a driver for sustainable development

Ahmed Aboukrim, Chair of the forum’s scientific committee, presented the final recommendations, stressing that youth empowerment is no longer just a social priority—it has become a strategic pillar for addressing economic, social and technological shifts. He highlighted the consensus among participants on adopting integrated approaches that merge education, vocational training, employability, entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainable financing. The goal? To build human capital resilience and boost national competitiveness across the region.

During intensive workshops, four key sectors emerged as transformative engines for youth economic independence:

  • Green economy: Sustainable agriculture, circular economy models and eco-friendly manufacturing
  • Artificial intelligence and digital transformation: Tech-driven solutions for public and private sectors
  • Renewable energy and green hydrogen: Scaling up clean energy infrastructure
  • Blue economy and water resources: Marine conservation, desalination and sustainable fisheries

Practical steps to unlock youth-led innovation

The forum’s working groups issued concrete proposals, including:

  • Establishing dedicated venture funds for youth projects in green, digital and blue economies
  • Launching joint research and training programs to bridge knowledge gaps
  • Creating specialized incubators to nurture startups from ideation to market
  • Developing shared impact metrics to track progress in youth employment, innovation and sustainability outcomes

Delegates underscored how Morocco and the GCC countries can leverage complementary strengths—resources, expertise and investment capacity—to pioneer a regional cooperation model rooted in innovation, knowledge-based growth and sustainable development.

Gulf partners praise Morocco’s leadership

Salma Khalifa Al Ghafli, Head of the UAE delegation, commended Morocco’s flawless event organization and warm hospitality, praising the deep fraternal ties between the Kingdom and GCC member states. She described the forum as an unparalleled platform for knowledge exchange and partnership-building in youth empowerment, affirming that investing in young people is the surest path to securing the future of nations.

The closing ceremony honored heads of delegations from GCC countries and diplomatic representatives, recognizing their vital contributions to the forum’s success and their dedication to strengthening Morocco-GCC cooperation in youth and development initiatives.
