Tiassalé mayor unveils free weekend transport plan in Côte d’Ivoire

Antoine Assalé Tiémoko, the mayor of Tiassalé, a bustling cosmopolitan city situated approximately 120 kilometers from Abidjan, has announced a groundbreaking initiative: communal transportation will be complimentary on weekends for residents.

This pioneering service is projected to commence its implementation with a pilot phase towards the close of 2026.

In a detailed statement shared on his official Meta account, Mayor Assalé elucidated the rationale behind this decision: ” This measure is part of a broader strategy to reallocate the commune’s financial resources. Our internal funds, primarily derived from municipal taxes, have experienced significant growth, escalating from 24 million FCFA in 2019 to 91 million FCFA in 2025, with an anticipated increase to 100 million FCFA by 2026.”

The unprecedented proposal was first revealed by the mayor on Friday, May 22, 2026, during the 11th annual accountability day event, which took place in the wedding hall of Tiassalé.

Assalé Tiémoko is a prominent figure, known both as a seasoned politician and a journalist. He currently holds the mayoral office for the commune of Tiassalé and also presides over the political movement named ”Aujourd’hui et demain, la Côte d’Ivoire (ADCI).”
