Togo energy sector shake-up as ceet director general removed

The leadership of Togo’s electricity sector has undergone a significant shift following the removal of Débo-K’mba Barandao from his position as Director General of the Togolese Electricity Company (CEET). The decision, confirmed by multiple sources, marks the end of an era for the public utility firm.

While no official statement has clarified the reasons behind the dismissal, this move arrives at a critical juncture for the CEET. The company has long struggled with persistent challenges in electricity distribution, service reliability, and the modernization of its aging infrastructure.

Appointed in March 2022, Débo-K’mba Barandao was tasked with spearheading sweeping reforms aimed at improving the company’s operational and administrative efficiency. His tenure was characterized by ambitious restructuring initiatives designed to address long-standing inefficiencies within the state-owned enterprise.

The CEET remains a cornerstone of Togo’s energy landscape, yet it continues to grapple with systemic issues such as frequent power outages and the urgent need for technological upgrades across its grid network.

As of now, no successor has been announced. Authorities have indicated that a replacement will be appointed in the coming days to ensure seamless continuity in the management and delivery of electricity services nationwide.
