Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya recently held a productive discussion with French Health Minister Stéphanie Rist. This meeting occurred following the confirmation of an imported case of Bundibugyo strain Ebola virus disease on French territory.
Mr. Kaseya specifically lauded France’s assurance that no travel restrictions would be imposed in response to this particular incident.
The patient, a Congolese humanitarian physician, had been actively involved in Ebola response efforts in Ituri, working on behalf of the NGO ALIMA. He tested positive for the virus after arriving in France, his usual place of residence. This marks the first confirmed Ebola case ever recorded on French soil.
Mr. Kaseya affirmed the steadfast commitment of Africa CDC, the World Health Organization, and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, alongside both French and Congolese authorities. Their collective resolve is to contain the epidemic, safeguard communities, and foster a harmonized, coordinated response on both continental and global levels.
