Pope Leo XIV has appointed Archbishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya as a member of the Section for the First Evangelization and New Particular Churches within the Dicastery for Evangelization. Cameroonian lawyer Akere Muna has welcomed the decision.

Archbishop Andrew Nkea Fuanya received a promotion from Pope Leo XIV. The prelate now joins the Section dedicated to the first evangelization and emerging particular churches, a branch of the Dicastery for Evangelization. His responsibilities include assisting the Holy See in fostering the growth of young churches and guiding global missionary efforts.

This appointment drew praise from Akere Muna, a prominent figure in Cameroon’s civil society. According to the lawyer, the move is not only a deep recognition of Nkea’s pastoral wisdom, tireless service and unwavering commitment to the Church, but also a powerful testament to the light he continues to bring to Cameroon, Africa and the universal Church.

“I am convinced that in this new mission, he will continue to serve with the same courage, clarity and paternal compassion that have marked his ministry over the years,” Muna wrote. Archbishop Nkea was appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Bamenda in 2019. Elected president of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon on 30 April 2022, he has been a key player in peace dialogue in crisis-hit regions.
