In Bamako, the vibrant capital of Mali, an enduring state of emergency casts a shadow over daily life. Access to this critical urban center remains severely restricted, a direct consequence of blockades imposed by various Islamist militias. This ongoing situation has cultivated a palpable sense of apprehension among residents, who live with the constant threat of potential terrorist attacks. As a Sahel Reporter, I’ve observed firsthand how this instability is now leading to significant challenges, with essential food supplies becoming increasingly scarce. Reflecting the gravity of the security landscape, France has formally urged its citizens to depart the nation, underscoring the serious nature of the current affairs impacting Mali and the broader Sahel region.
