A formal ceremony took place at the Cotonou Air Base on June 30, 2026, to honor the general’s distinguished service. The event featured military honors, a flag salute, and a troop review, all paying tribute to one of the country’s most decorated officers.
a career of leadership and resilience
The ceremony was attended by General Fructueux Gbaguidi, Chief of Staff of Benin’s Armed Forces, and Gildas Agonkan, Deputy Minister of National Defense. Both leaders commended General Bada’s exceptional career, highlighting his commitment to duty and integrity.
Earlier this year, on February 9, 2026, General Bada was promoted to five-star rank, a rare distinction in the country’s military history. Before his retirement, he served as a defense and security advisor to President Romuald Wadagni. Previously, he held the position of military cabinet director under the administration of President Patrice Talon.
Now 63 years old, General Bada concludes his military service after a career filled with challenges, including a personal ordeal during the December 7, 2025 coup attempt, which claimed the life of his wife.
