Boko Haram resurgence alarms Lake Chad region as attacks intensify
Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno delivered a stern warning following a deadly assault by a Boko Haram faction on a military outpost in Barka Tolorom, situated along the Chad side of Lake Chad. In a Facebook statement, he pledged unwavering commitment to eradicating the terrorist group, declaring, “We will continue this fight with renewed resolve until this threat is completely eliminated.”
The predawn raid on May 4 resulted in 24 soldiers losing their lives, underscoring the escalating boldness of Boko Haram’s operations in the Lake Chad basin. While regional security forces maintain a persistent counterterrorism presence, the latest attack signals a troubling shift in the group’s operational capacity.
