Chad joins un climate resilience fund at Baku urban forum

Chad’s presence at the World Urban Forum in Baku has yielded significant progress. The Central African nation has just been declared the 11th eligible country for the BCRUP program (Building Climate Resilience of Urban Populations) under the UN Green Climate Fund, which previously included only ten members.

This international endorsement highlights Chad’s commitment to addressing pressing challenges such as devastating floods, forced population displacements, and the escalating impacts of climate change in its urban hubs.

During the forum, the Chadian delegation led by Minister Mahamat Assileck Halata met with the Executive Director of UN-Habitat. The discussions centered on urban resilience strategies and potential avenues for cooperation. Following these talks, a pilot project was selected for funding ranging between $900,000 and $1 million, paving the way for additional financial support from UN-Habitat in the coming months.
