Chad: prominent opposition figures granted temporary release on health grounds
Two prominent members of Chad’s former Groupe de concertation des acteurs politiques (GCAP), Me Bidi Valentin and Bombay Kelo—both sentenced to eight years in prison—have been granted provisional release due to serious health concerns.
A decision driven by medical urgency
The temporary release was ordered by prosecutors in N’Djamena following a review of the detainees’ medical conditions. According to Me Adoum Moussa, legal representative of the former GCAP figures, both individuals are elderly and suffer from multiple chronic illnesses, making imprisonment particularly hazardous.
« Their release is strictly a health-related measure. While we welcome this decision, it does not constitute a final resolution of their legal status, » explained Me Adoum Moussa.
