Chad suspends four popular yogurt brands over health violations

Chad’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued an urgent directive to halt the distribution of several yogurt batches produced in N’Djamena after routine inspections exposed serious sanitary breaches. The decision follows a series of unannounced quality checks conducted by the Centre for Food Quality Control (CECOQDA) between June 1 and June 5, 2026, across multiple yogurt production facilities in the capital.

Critical health risks prompt immediate market withdrawal

Laboratory analyses confirmed the presence of unacceptable microbiological and physicochemical conditions in the sampled products. Inspectors also documented major violations of hygiene, storage, and food safety protocols during the evaluation process.

Four leading brands face suspension

The affected companies include Tami Yogurt, Alkhiza Yogurt, Lazza Yogurt, and Gamar Yogurt. The Ministry has mandated an immediate market withdrawal of all batches from these producers and suspended further distribution until further notice.

Companies urged to rectify production standards

In response to the findings, the Ministry has called on the four businesses to fully implement the corrective measures outlined by CECOQDA to align their products with national food safety regulations. This includes upgrading sanitation practices, improving storage conditions, and adopting stricter quality assurance protocols.

Nationwide food safety crackdown expands

This enforcement action is part of a broader campaign to strengthen food safety oversight across Chad. Regulatory teams will now expand inspections to include all food production and distribution units nationwide. The Ministry has also urged consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products to local authorities.
