chadian police officer shoots two colleagues in N’Djamena traffic dispute
A remarkably violent incident unfolded around 5 PM near the Goudjé Barrière roundabout in N’Djamena, Chad. Traffic police officers were actively directing vehicles to prevent significant congestion when the confrontation began.
Initial reports indicate that the driver of a Toyota Corolla, equipped with tinted windows, allegedly attempted to bypass traffic regulations despite clear instructions from the on-duty officers. A traffic brigade policeman then reportedly intervened, seeking to enforce the established flow. This quickly escalated into a heated altercation.
The individual, identified as an active police officer who had recently been removed from his post (formerly stationed at the 3rd arrondissement police station), reportedly drew a pistol. He fired a warning shot into the air before aiming directly at the officers. Two agents sustained gunshot wounds, with one being struck in the ear. Their injuries, while serious, are not considered life-threatening.
During the ensuing intervention, officers successfully apprehended the assailant and confiscated his weapon. However, before being fully subdued, the individual also reportedly inflicted a knife wound to another officer’s forehead, right in front of the Goudjé Barrière roundabout.
The injured officers received immediate medical attention, swiftly transported to a healthcare facility for treatment. Their condition is being closely monitored, though initial assessments offer reassurance regarding the victims who suffered gunshot wounds.
The aggressor was handcuffed and subsequently transferred to the Police Secours facilities, located within the General Directorate of Police. He was reportedly in an intoxicated state during the incident.
An official investigation is now underway to thoroughly determine the precise circumstances of this shocking attack, which has understandably caused considerable alarm among both the public and law enforcement personnel present at the scene.
